Kyohei Baba

After he built his career in apparel retail stores in Osaka, Kyohei Baba was called back to his hometown of Hasami, Nagasaki by his father to inherit his family business of a Hasami Yaki (porcelain) artisan shop. After nearly 3 years of struggle to reconstruct his family business, which was down at the time, he decided to produce a new collection of Hasami Yaki. Kyohei researched antique shops and boutiques to find his favorite style of mug. After creating his own design, he collaborated with his artisans to prototype over and over again until he reached his ideal shape and function. The mugs became the basis of a new line of Hasami Yaki, with the idea of creating objects for everyday use.
